Advanced Content Criteria
Advanced Content Criterion: 2025-2026 School Year
Rising 6th Graders:
- Internal teacher recommendation from current teacher in that subject area- please note that no teacher recommendation letters will be accepted from parents/guardians
- 90th percentile (Distinguished Learner) GA Milestones test using the state benchmark cut scores
- Math or Science Milestones will be used for science placement
- Reading Milestones will be used for L&L and I&S placement
- 80th Percentile on the Spring or Fall 2025 MAP Assessment
- Math or Science MAP will be used for science placement
- Reading MAP will be used for L&L and I&S placement
- 88 or higher in the course
- 1150+ Lexile
*Students must meet four of the five criteria for AC Placement
*If the percentile minimums are not achieved and a student has demonstrated high growth on the MAP assessment (Fall to Spring or Winter to Spring) OR the 2025 Georgia Milestones Assessment, the student may be considered for Advanced Content placement
*Students who scored below the 25th percentile in Reading and/or Math on the Spring MAP assessment or if a student did not demonstrate proficiency on the 24-25 GMAS will be placed in the appropriate remedial course rather than world language.
7th Grade Advanced Content Criterion
Advanced Content Placement Criterion
Students must meet a minimum of two Criterion from Section 1 AND one Criterion from Section 2 as listed below. All students who are identified as Gifted will be placed in Advanced Content classes for Language and Literature, Individuals and Societies, and Science, unless there is an extenuating circumstance. All non-Gifted identified students who wish to be considered for placement in Advanced Content courses should meet the criteria as listed below. Advanced Content placement decisions will not take place until after Georgia Milestones scores are received over the summer.
Section 1
Criterion I: Course Grade
- A Minimum grade of 88 or above should be received in the desired course during the previous school year
Criterion II: Teacher Recommendation
- All teachers will have the opportunity to make course recommendations internally in the spring- please note that no teacher recommendation will be received directly from a parent unless the student does NOT currently attend an APS school.
Criterion III: Lexile Score
- Students should receive a Lexile score of 1150 or greater on the “stretch band” measured on the Georgia Milestones or MAP Assessment.
Section 2
Criterion I: Spring MAP Assessment Data
- For placement in English/Language Arts and/or Social Studies: 90th Percentile or above on the 24-25 MAP Spring Reading exam
- For placement in Science: 90th Percentile or above on the 24-25 MAP Spring Math exam
Criterion II: 2024-2025 Georgia Milestone Assessment Results
- Students receive the Distinguished Learner Achievement Indicator in the desired subject(s)
Criterion III: For Students transferring from Private School/ Out of State /Charter/Independent School ONLY
- Students score in the 90th Percentile on their School’s End of Year Exam (ERB, etc.)
*If the 90th percentile is not achieved and a student has demonstrated high growth on the MAP assessment (Fall to Spring or Winter to Spring) OR the 2025 Georgia Milestones Assessment, the student may be considered for Advanced Content placement
