Rising 6th Grade Information
Welcome to Sutton Middle School! We understand that the transition to 6th grade can come with feelings of uncertainty, nervousness, and excitement! We are here to help and to make this transition as seamless and smooth as possible. Please review the information below carefully and check this page regularly for updates. We also encourage you to familiarize yourself with Sutton's Policies and Procedures, arrival and dismissal instructions, and current bell schedules. See you soon!
Registration
ALL students must re-register in order to receive a schedule. Information about re-registration will be posted here as soon as it is available from the district. All registration will be completed online through Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Contact Sonya Williams with questions.
Scheduling
An information session about SY26-27 student schedules and course selection was held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Please view the recording to learn about the scheduling process, DLI offerings, connections course offerings, and much more! Contact Amanda Fielder with questions.

Gifted and Talented
Students who are currently in the GATE program will be scheduled into the appropriate GATE courses for 2026-2027.
DLI students who are also in the GATE program will be scheduled for GATE Science only in 6th grade. Additional details will be shared on February 12. Contact Ms. Medina with questions about DLI.
DLI
DLI students are scheduled for Spanish Language Arts, DLI English Language Arts, DLI Social Studies, and EITHER DLI Media Arts or DLI Visual Arts. For questions about DLI, contact Ms. Medina.
Accelerated Math
Sutton offers Accelerated Math and 6th Grade Math. Students requesting placement in 6th Grade Accelerated Math MUST have scored a 230 or higher on the 5th Grade Winter MAP test. There are no exceptions to this requirement. Please direct all questions about Accelerated Math to Dr. Anyee Payne or Andrea Edge. Students entering Sutton from a private school or another district should contact Amanda Fielder.
Advanced Content Classes
Students who are not currently in the GATE program have the opportunity to be scheduled into advanced content Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts. Our 26-27 advanced content criteria will be published during the month of February.
Sports and Clubs
Sixth graders are eligible to play certain Sutton sports and join all of Sutton's clubs and intramurals! Please contact Athletic Director Vincent Barnes with questions about sports and Clubs Chair Matthew Bryant with questions about clubs. Fall sports tryout information and fall club offerings will not be posted until July-August, 2026. However, you may visit our current Athletics and Clubs pages to see our current offerings.
School Tours
Sutton's PTA conducts monthly tours of the sixth grade campus. Please sign up on the Sutton PTA site.
Required Supplies
Students should bring pencils, at least one notebook, and at least one folder on the first day of school. Individual teachers will include their required supply lists on their syllabi. Clear backpacks are not required, but are encouraged.
